{"id":42477,"date":"2023-11-05T16:42:49","date_gmt":"2023-11-05T16:42:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/innodebt.com\/markets\/crypto\/trial-of-alleged-mango-markets-exploiter-avraham-eisenberg-postponed-heres-the-latest\/"},"modified":"2023-11-05T16:42:51","modified_gmt":"2023-11-05T16:42:51","slug":"trial-of-alleged-mango-markets-exploiter-avraham-eisenberg-postponed-heres-the-latest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/innodebt.com\/?p=42477","title":{"rendered":"Trial of Alleged Mango Markets Exploiter Avraham Eisenberg Postponed \u2013 Here&#8217;s the Latest"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_127256\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-127256\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><noscript><\/noscript><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-127256\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image Source: Pixabay<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The trial of <strong>Avraham Eisenberg<\/strong>, the individual accused of exploiting <strong>Mango Markets<\/strong>, has been delayed per request by his lawyers.<\/p>\n<p>Initially scheduled for December 4, 2023, the trial has been rescheduled to April 8, 2024, according to <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">court documents<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Eisenberg\u2019s legal team requested the postponement after their client was unexpectedly transferred from a New Jersey prison to the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, where Sam Bankman-Fried has been held since his bail was revoked in August.<\/p>\n<p>Eisenberg\u2019s lawyers argued that they require additional time to prepare a defense due to the complex legal and factual issues surrounding the case, as well as the extensive volume of discovery provided by the government.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors opposed the motion, contending that Eisenberg committed the alleged offenses alone, on a single day, through a specific set of financial transactions.<\/p>\n<p>They further argued that the defense has had ample time to prepare for the trial.<\/p>\n<p>As <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">reported<\/span>, the charges against Eisenberg were brought by the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in connection with his alleged $116 million exploit of Mango Markets.<\/p>\n<p>Eisenberg previously claimed that his actions were part of a highly profitable trading strategy and believed that they were legal and within the framework of the protocol, even if the consequences were not fully anticipated by the development team.<\/p>\n<p>If convicted of wire fraud, Eisenberg could face a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison.\n<\/p>\n<h2>Bankman-Fried Faces Decades in Prison<\/h2>\n<p>\nIn another high-profile crypto-related case, Sam Bankman-Fried, the convicted founder of <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">FTX<\/span>, faces the prospect of spending decades in a federal prison.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, a jury found Bankman-Fried guilty of all criminal counts against him after the crypto boss\u2019s monthlong trial wrapped up on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The FTX founder, convicted of seven counts of fraud, conspiracy, and money laundering, faces a maximum sentence of 115 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Caroline Ellison<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, CEO of Alameda Research,\u00a0<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Gary Wang<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, co-founder of FTX, and\u00a0<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Nishad Singh<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, FTX engineering chief, are likely to receive little to no prison time for their cooperation, according to\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">legal experts<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>All three admitted to participating in fraudulent activities under Bankman-Fried\u2019s direction, involving the transfer of billions of dollars in FTX customer funds to Alameda, a hedge fund mostly owned by Bankman-Fried.<\/p>\n<p>However, they may still face other consequences.
